MrWeb changes every day, and aims to add significant new content for research professionals every week.

What's New for Thursday 13th December?

As of Thursday evening... a whole new site - or half a wholly new site, to be more accurate, seeing as we haven't finished it yet - but that won't stop us launching it, as those of you who have followed MrWeb over the years may be painfully aware :) No seriously, a lot of the redesign is done and much of the rest should be completed frantically in the few days after the move, so watch out for it from 8pm - or better still, give it a few hours and take a look on Friday.

36 ads were posted on Weds.

What's New for Wednesday 5th December?

Everything ticking along nicely. 57 ads posted, 9 news stories, a wee bit of work on the site relaunch coming up next week, a new agency in the directory and 4 direct ads so far this week, plus some hopeful signs from our regular UK recruitment agencies, some of whom are already booked up for another year.

What's New for Monday 3rd December?

Records in November for page views - 460,000 plus, up from 428,000 previous; and unique visitors, 24,600 from 23,800 in October. December will be quieter so that's all the records until January which usually smashes'em. An eventual total of 1099 job ads on the site from the month - 2nd only to... January 07.

What's New for Friday 30th Nov 2007

Nine years MrWeb's been going, as of Thursday 29th, on which 61 ads were posted. A few new n different things planned for our tenth year beginning with the biggest, ie the hardest work if not the most original, in two weeks' time. Hope that's got you intrigued...

What's New for Thursday 29th Nov?

Up to 1001 jobs for the month with 32 added today. Some new designs for key pages coming along nicely.

What's New for Wednesday 28th Nov?

Nick now back on the case after a great not-quite-a-week's holiday.

52 ads posted on Tuesday. Some good stats at present and November totals are promising - the overall number of visits won't beat last month's record level but unique visitors might well do, page views will and the number of job ads posted looks likely to be second only to Jan 07 - 969 and counting.

A few technical problems in the last week which we hope are sorted out now.

What's New for Thursday 22nd Nov?

Change of personnel in the office with Mel now in for two more days and Nick away for four. 45 ads posted on Weds.

What's New for Wednesday 21st November?

52 ads posted. Mel down from Edinburgh and visited the Insight Show today - apparently a social whirl whether or not the stands were any good.

What's New for Tuesday 20th Nov?

56 ads - keeping up a very steady stream so far in November - but with the UK's Insight Show starting tomorrow it might be a slightly sleepy rest-of-the-week. Some real progress with redesign work on several sections since last week - all to be revealed in December, probably the second full week of.

What's New for Thursday 15th Nov?

Some busy days for job posting and some great site stats this week - we had 21,000 page views on Weds and November is just about on course for another record despite the missing day vs October.

Some work on new scripts to make job editing and management easier, and some good progress with redesign work on directory pages.

What's New for the weekend?

A quiet day Friday - just 26 ads with the UK in particular off its usual frantic pace. Lots of other activity though - new design, banner programming improvements and a good number of viewers.

What's New for Thursday 8th November?

47 ads posted, some work on new designs and a great deal of admin done this week, plus a new banner up for Research Now today.

What's New for Tuesday 6th Nov?

Only one of me in the office! Due to sickness and holiday. Only 30 jobs posted, but 8 news stories.

What's New for the weekend?

155 jobs in the first two days of November - wow. Large numbers being posted for Nielsen and Millward Brown in the US, and for CSA Recruitment and many others in the UK.

What's New for Friday 2nd Nov?

69 ads posted, including lots from the US, Aus etc.. Lots of quotes issued for banners and a couple for potential new regular advertisers.

What's New for Thursday 1st November?

61 ads posted. Final October audience totals - all records - are:

Unique visitors 23,800
Visits 56,300
Page views 428,000

996 jobs were posted - not a record but pretty good.

Page view stats likely to dip in the near future when we switch to a less frames-led design for the site - one way in which this stat can be a bit misleading at times - but we hope the other two figures keep on rising.

What's New for Weds 31st October?

All 3 site records gone now, with page views steaming past 410,000, easily the biggest for any month; total visits past the previous best and up above 54,000 tonight; and unique visitors just dawdling past the previous best and the 23,000 mark. All three of these stats are between 40 and 50% up on last October which shows pretty good progress - but then the whole online ads and recruitment sector is very buoyant so we know we have to keep pushing to stay ahead...

70 ads posted today with good numbers from each of our four usual continents. US jobs will be in double figures every day now, barring technical hitches or overwork crises!

What's New for the weekend?

A week without a 'What's new' due to NT being away for 3.5 days and others having to cover large amount of duties. 30 ads posted each of the last two days - should get much busier on Monday. Site stats are excellent - headed for just-about-records for unique and total visitors, and easy record for page views after 80,000+ in the five working days of this week - we should pass 400,000 for the first time by midnight on October 31st.

What's New for the weekend?

45 ads including lots in Aus. Audience is up and down a bit this month, but overall headed for roughly the same as last month's record stats.

35 ads posted including another late, large batch from the US. Some major new design and programming coming together today on a test site to which we're moving soon.

What's New for the weekend?

68 ads posted - busiest for a while, with loads in Asia. A mass of jobs are due next week from a top ten agency, mostly in the US or Asia - we've had a few from them before but this is much larger-scale. We hope for more such agencies soon!

What's New for Friday 12th October?

42 ads posted. Quite an extraordinarily slow day for news, at least until about 4pm when it perked up a bit. Till then we were on the verge of publishing 'No Researchers Hurt in Small Earthquake'.

Around 25 companies updated in the agencies directory in last few days - hopefully this level of activity at least will keep up for a good while yet. Site stats are very good again this week, and direct advertisers are fairly lively, with more due tomorrow or Monday.

What's New for the weekend?

40 ads posted, and some new graphics on the news email.

What's New for Friday 5th October?

... anyone there...?

Tumbleweeds blowing across MrWeb today with a mere 10,000 pages viewed - after the frantic first three days of the week which had more than 15,000 apiece. All relative. Been an excellent start to October anyhow!

What's New for Weds 3rd October?

October started with the two busiest days ever, in terms of site visits, with 5,500 by 3am Wednesday. 63 ads were posted on Tuesday with lots overseas making up for Monday's very UK-centric day.

What's New for Tuesday 2nd October?

32 ads posted, only one outside the UK. Final tallies for September were very good indeed - a record 53,000 visits from a record 23,000 unique visitors, and 350,000 pages viewed, second only to August. Ian back from Japan which means some graphics that sat still for 2 weeks should start changing again, freshening things up a bit.

What's New for Thursday 27th Sept?

20,000 pages viewed on Wednesday - in the all-time top 6. Visitor numbers also excellent. More companies being updated in the agencies directory and 38 job ads posted.

What's New for Wednesday 26th Sept?

55 ads posted. Site stats headed for 2 monthly records, unique visitors and visits, by the end of the month on Sunday, barring disasters. About three dozen companies have so far updated their directory entries in the last 4 days, and three have subscribed, even though we haven't yet sent out the invites to subscribe. Classification information added for about 1,000 news readers so far following an emailshot last week.

What's New for the weekend?

Nearly but not quite 12,000 visits Monday to Friday - only a short while ago I was shouting about making 10,000 for the first time. So that's good.

32 ads posted, and lots of people updating their entries in the agencies directory, plus a new paying subscriber, FreshMinds.

What's New for Friday 21st September?

65 ads posted, classification data added for about 220 news readers, and some very good feedback from our biggest recent direct advertiser. Wednesday's record audience ended up at about 2,650 visits.

What's New for Thursday 20th Sept?

Passed 2,500 visits for ?possibly? the first time today, and in the past two days we've had 33,000 page views which ain't at all bad. 34 ads were posted. Mel's back from ESOMAR tonight so no more shoddy newswriting from Yours Truly :)

What's New for Weds 19th September?

Good day for jobs - 45 posted. Great day for visits - 2,450 of them with 17,500 pages viewed. Ridiculous day for news stories, with 15 posted including appointments. Had enough news for twice that - all happ'nin in the world of MR.

What's New for Tuesday 18th Sept?

34 jobs posted, and some ESOMAR Congress coverage appearing courtesy of Mel feeding info back to the office to be written up. Not much else due to short staff (just taken on a dwarf) and those that remain not feeling too good either!

What's New for the weekend?

A reasonable audience for a Friday but a tiny 21 job ads posted - nice break really. A mammoth 9 news items posted, but with Mel off at ESOMAR next week there might be some quieter days coming up :)

What's New for Friday 14th September?

Another day with 14,500 pages viewed by 2,000+ visitors - a very busy September - and there were 63 ads posted. Some developments today for the agencies directory, both behind the scenes and with our first 2-year subscription booking - multi-year deals are a new feature.

What's New for Thursday 13th September?

56 ads posted. A huge number of site visits today - almost 2,500.

What's New for the weekend?

61 ads posted. Some behind the scenes work that should help boost the number of global jobs appearing for big agencies.

What's New for Friday 7th September?

Several exciting new things are bubbling away now and a couple of them moved ahead a fair bit today - new layouts, promotions and features. Hope we can keep them on track despite impending staff holidays and a mass of admin that sometimes seems to crowd them out of the schedule...

48 ads posted. 2,300 site visits. News subscriptions had a slow day but Hey, it has to happen sometimes.

What's New for Thursday 6th September?

15,600 pages viewed, a dozen or so subscriptions for the news, 43 ads posted and a fair bit of work - after a bit of a gap - on the major launch which still looks OK for September despite a bit of a slippage.

What's New for the weekend?

September just started and it should be a good month for launches and changes.

August was a record month on all audience counts and the number of visits ended at around 51,500, page views over 380,000. We also crept over 1,000 job ads by virtue of a late flurry Friday night.

What's New for Friday 31st August?

We should break the 50,000 site visits mark for the first time in a month, and get a record for unique visitors too. Page views at c.380,000 is already way over the previous highest.

52 ads were posted on Thursday.

What's New for Thursday 30th August?

38 job ads with quite a lot in the US and very few in the UK. 15,000 pages viewed by 2,300 visitors, and monthly visitor figures a few shy of a new record with two days to go. About 30 new subscribers added again - good times for the site.

What's New for Wednesday 29th August 2007?

43 ads posted on Tuesday, and around 30 subscriptions to news, jobs or both. Page views for the month are well above the previous best with three days to go, and unique visitors and visits should just about get there by Friday too.

What's New for the weekend?

49 ads posted. A slower day for audience, but not for candidate registrations which continue in double figures.

What's New for Friday 24th August?

Oops, it's Friday 24th and it wasn't Thursday 24th was it? :)

73 ads posted - busy one.

Today we announced our promotional partnership with America's MRA (Marketing Research Association) - we'll be pointing readers to their training and events and they'll be offering their members access to our news and jobs services. Hopefully the start of a major increase in US audience.

It's been a great week for UK jobs and for site audience, and our projects headed for major launches in September moved on a step or two today as well.

What's New for Thursday 24th August?

48 new jobs and a record 3,350 on the site; also an all-time high of 41 new candidates added tonight.

What's New for Wednesday 22nd August?

A number of initiatives underway this evening which should result in renewed agency subscriptions, increased jobseeker registrations and more newsreaders signing up this week. 32 ads were posted and page views continue to soar above previous levels with 30,000 in two days so far this week.

What's New for Tuesday 21st August?

46 ads posted, only one of them in the US but a few in Asia and Aus. Lots of news stories around at present, and both news and jobs registrations over the weekend made double figures.

What's New for the weekend?

Total page views for the working week just passed 70,000, and with 91 ads posted on Friday we'd expect it to be a busy weekend too. Various new initiatives a bit stalled today, what with the above, 8 news items and 4 further appointments keeping us very busy - but it's been a good week for them and Monday will see one of them going ahead.

What's New for Friday 17th August?

Well over 200,000 page views already this month - on course for the highest to date. Today, 42 job ads, some progress on a much-delayed MRWho, some more in programming and some in setting up a better online payment system. Plus some work on major new designs which will affect the look of the site in a month or so.

What's New for Thursday 16th?

A mere 17 ads on marieceleste.com on Weds. Audience however continues enormous, with 2,200+ visitors today and an average of 16,384 pages a day so far this week - a number no doubt familiar to the students of exponentials among you. Two big announcements are due in the next 2 or 3 working days.

What's New for Weds 15th August?

More extremely high stats, more progress with software development and new designs, and an email from someone who's found his last two jobs via the site which is always good to hear! 49 ads posted in the end.

What's New for Tuesday 14th August?

Only 23 ads, nice quiet one. Mel back on the case with the news tomorrow, fortunately. Site stats going like the clappers this month, on course for records for all three main indicators, unique visitors, visits and page views.

Programming to go behind September's new feature is all but done - then there's lots of lesser coding and organising to be done, but it's nicely on schedule for a change.

What's New for the weekend?

Programming for new feature almost finished on schedule and it looks quite exciting; another 14,500 page views mean that August is on course for a record 360,000 or so - doubt it will keep up at quite that rate, however. A lot of holidays at present mean lots of work for those of us who remain - but we're getting through it and next week will be back to full strength.

What's New for Tuesday 7th August?

Large numbers of subscriptions and page views continue. Just 31 ads posted. The agency home page list is to be tidied up a bit in the next day or two.

What's New for the weekend?

It's been a fairly spectacular week for the site with a final tally of 120 news subscribers added, more than 50,000 page views in the last three days and lots more happening behind the scenes. Whereas if we were based in France, we would all have just gone off on a month's holiday. Hmm, actually that sounds OK...

What's New for Friday August 3rd 2007?

All good news at present with 37,000 page views in 2 days of August so far, and large numbers of people responding to an emailshot and signing up for the news emails. More good progress with the new site feature for September.

What's New for Thursday 2nd August 2007?

34 ads posted. Some great stats with 50+ new subscribers to the news already this week, and a rather dubious 24,000 page views on Wednesday - no doubt a blip of the same kind that reduced some totals last month and in May and June - but also a realistic looking 2,250 visits. Also some great progress on the radical new site feature which looks like it might actually go live in September as previously mooted.

What's New for Tuesday 31st July?

47 ads posted Monday - a similar haul on Tuesday would just take us past 1,000 for the month. 13,500 page views, and our 14th consecutive working day over 10,000. We also had over 1,000 visits on a weekend day, possibly for the first time, on Saturday. Around 15 new news subscribers today including the first from what looks like being a very useful emailshot.

What's New for Wednesday 25th July?

39 ads posted, audience consistently around 12-13,000 page views a day again which is good news.

What's New for the weekend?

Just 28 ads posted, but audience still good and lots of progress on technical matters today and yesterday, including programming new features and speeding up old.

What's New for Thursday 19th July?

Nearly 14,000 page views and 49 ads posted. Some design work on the radical new feature which will hopefully launch in September.

What's New for Weds 18th July?

64 new ads and 13,000 page views today, plus 50 news subscribers added from last few days - an excellent July so far. Have also done a little better with 'other' appointments in the news this week but still need to do better.

What's New for Tuesday 17th July?

63 ads posted, around a dozen new news subscribers and some more blooming good site stats with 12,000 page views, high for a Monday, and 19,000 at the weekend, a record. Fingers very much crossed that it continues.

What's New for the weekend?

39 jobs posted Friday, an OK week for ads altogether.

A very good week for audience and registrations! 35,000+ pages in last 3 days which is back to the levels before the rather inexplicable early summer slump - and scores of people have signed up for news this week. One new regular UK recruitment advertiser also booked, the first in a while but then there are very few left who are not on board.

Some more progress with the bold new feature... all very secretive I know, hope it's not going to be too much of a disappointment when it arrives :)

What's New for Friday 13th July?

32 ads posted on Thursday, and the total number of news subscriptions for the week has passed 50 which is useful.

What's New for Thursday 12th July?

31 ads posted, another dozen or so signed up for news and some serious ideas taking shape for big changes in site design.

What's New for Wednesday 11th July?

All of 76 ads posted, and nine news stories sent out - it was also weekly news days so a very late finish indeed. About 30 people signed up for news after the most successful email session in some time.

What's New for the weekend?

49 ads posted, lots in Asia and Australia from the busy CCI Recruitment. First steps taken this evening towards an ambitious new feature which, if it happens, will be our biggest departure in years...

What's New for Tuesday 3rd July?

37 new ads, a smallish response so far to latest emailshot, and some behind the scenes work on some bold new features..... coo-er.

What's New for the weekend?

A lighter day on the jobs side - 36 after a fairly relentless 50-a-day for most of June. Lots of news items to make up. Some exciting plans taking shape for the next month or two including a big redesign and some new site features very unlike anything on there at present...

What's New for Thursday 21st June?

A first full day in our new office in London SE1 - well, it would have been but for a howler by our new phone company which meant our number diverted to a non-functioning line for several hours and we had to return to the old office to sort it out. Still, a good day with lots of ads from interesting sources, and more than 2,100 visits.

What's New for Tuesday June 19th?

51 ads posted - otherwise... don't know as have had a day off today and only returned for the traditional nightly session sending jobs emails etc..

MrWeb moves tomorrow to new offices in Borough, London SE1.

What's New for the weekend?

56 ads posted including quite a lot with salaries up and over the 80k mark - senior people in MR do seem to be paid a lot more than they were back in 2001. A couple of dozen new news subscribers added - plenty more to come next week.

What's New for Friday 15th June?

63 ads posted, mostly a mixture of US and UK. A major marketing effort started today which should last a few weeks and hopefully bring in a good few newsreaders. Banner sales and direct advertiser numbers are exceptional at the moment - be nice if it lasts!

What's New for Wednesday 13th June?

Another good day for stats with more than 12,000 page views but bit patchy still and not up to the levels of April. Lots and lots of jobs going on, averaging 50 or 60 a day now.

What's New for the weekend?

67 ads posted, rounding off a super-busy week for jobs - and almost 400 in the last 7 working days. Banner orders are also coming in as fast as we can cope / slots booking solid a long way in advance. Let's hope we can find that person to focus on the jobs board soon, via our ad on... the jobs board.

What's New for Thursday 7th June?

Nice busy day on Weds with 42 ads, 2,300 site visits and page views climbing again after the odd blip of May. Lots of banners appearing this week, including the first from YouGov, and lots more being booked.

What's New for Tuesday 5th June?

A healthy 12,500 page views on Monday, and around 20 new candidates subscribing for emails. Some MRWho content ready to go online tomorrow, some new banners added and more of those due for tomorrow as well.

What's New for Friday 1st June?

1,062 ads on the site from May, the second month to pass the 1,000 mark. Unique visitors and visits roughly equalled the previous record too so not such a bad month despite my worries on disappearing page views - should hear back from the techies on Monday about this, we hope.

What's New for Thursday 31st May?

60 jobs posted, some good progress on automating a new jobs process and on converting MRWho items for the web.

What's New for Wednesday 30th May?

Around 2,000 visits and 11,500 page views on Tuesday - almost like old times but I suspect that it's actually a combination of an excellent day with the same server problem that's been running on and on. Hopefully someone is on the case as of this evening.

MrWeb has a new office - from June 20th we'll be saying Goodbye to Docklands after (in my case) twelve and a half years and will be resident in Langdale House in SE1, about 7 mins walk from London Bridge.

A more normal day for job posting after a record 105 on Friday and 82 the previous day - a mere 35 today. Also another banner booked, another direct advertiser, another enquiry about regular postings from a UK recruiter - typical day in 2007 in those respects...

What's New for Friday 25th May?

82 ads posted on Thursday. A better week for site stats with page views still down but visits and unique visitors going very well, which is of more concern given how page view stats can be influenced by site design etc.. Don't know what we did though to kybosh them for May!

Lack of 'What's New's this week is partly down to ongoing hunt for a new office - a couple of nice locations nearer the centre of town are now on the shortlist.

What's New for Friday 18th May?

48 ads posted, more direct ads and banner orders, and around twenty new subscribers for MRWho, plus some nice feedback on the one that went out yesterday.

What's New for Thursday 17th May?

46 ads posted, MRWho gone!!!

What's New for Weds 16th May?

34 ads posted - on course for more than 1,000 in May. Frantically busy day for news items. MRWho, much like Simon Smith and his amazing dancing bear, may go out tomorrow - but that's an old refrain...

What's New for Friday 11th May?

40 ads posted, all in the UK for the first time in ages. MRWho content finished but for one item which should be done tomorrow morning - and design coming on nicely thanks to some hard work by Ian - publication definitely Monday if not late tomorrow.

Audience still patchy - really odd because the main pages are getting normal numbers of views - it may possibly be connected to the way the stats package measures things so we're looking into this. No obvious reason for it to be down otherwise, with lots of postings, lots of subscriptions, good news items and plenty of audience feedback at present.

What's New for Thursday 10th May?

Only 32 ads posted on Tuesday but a whopping 82 on Wednesday so getting to be a very busy May in terms of postings. 22 different advertisers represented today. MRWho in final stages now.

What's New for the bank holiday weekend?

A very puzzling kind of Friday. An enormous 86 ads were posted, stretching us considerably, and massochistic NT decided to publish 9 news items in spite of the lack of time remaining, and yet site audience consisted of about half a dozen people looking at ten pages (slight exaggeration). Ho hum. Was there another earthquake that prevented people getting to work, or did they just start their bank holidays early? Don't know, but we're not all that worried yet - it should pick up next week.

What's New for Thurs 3rd May?

69 ads and rather a knackering day. Put out an appeal for our own job vacancy with tonight's jobseeker emails - we could post so many more if we had someone to help with the administration of it, and with yet another potential regular UK advertiser getting in touch today we can easily justify it.

Lots of news items going up, what with the new separate appointments option.

Audience back up to a respectable 1950 visits and 12700 pages today - a real slump the previous 3 weekdays which makes me think maybe I missed a Conference or two, somewhere in the world where we have a lot of readers...

What's New for Weds 2nd May?

63 ads, but a very poor site audience - where is everybody?!

What's New for the weekend?

49 jobs added. The appointments section on the news is working in more automated fashion now. April looks like not quite making it as far as record audiences are concerned - average visits and page views per weekday are currently highest ever but the missing day and Easter slowdown means it won't beat March, barring a bonanza on Monday.

What's New for Friday 27th April?

MRWho lead article written; a busy 68 jobs posted; little hiccup with the new appointments section on the news but should be sorted soon!

What's New for Thursday 26th April?

A very good day - 58 ads; a mass of content for MRWho; the new appointments section launched, albeit in rather a rough and ready way; three direct advertisers and a first ad from new UK recruitment consultancy Tarsh Lazare due up tomorrow. Plus a scoop about our old buddies at PJ selling to US-based recruiter Aquent - our first ever paying client back in April 1999 and we wish them great success in their new set-up!

What's New for Weds 25th April?

This month's second new regular UK advertiser all but signed up. 50 ads posted, but a big batch due for the US.

What's New for Tuesday April 24th 2007?

A whopping 17,100 page views on Monday. 41 ads posted, and 13 different items combined into 6 stories for the news. However the main success of the day seems to have been MRWho for which we secured half a dozen contributors, just about wrapping up the content for this month by Thursday, provided they all deliver what they say they will!

What's New for the weekend?

Precisely 10,000 site visits Monday to Friday - first time we've reached this milestone. Also record number of pages viewed. 48 more ads today including one new advertiser. Two banners gone up this evening for MRS and Wavemetrix.

What's New for Friday 20th April?

Some big news stories around at present and some excellent stats for numbers reading them - one of today's has 400+ views already.

This is contributing to great site stats with more than 4,200 visits and 27,000 pages in the last two days.

50 ads were posted Thursday including new advertisers Cisco Systems and Dyson.

What's New for Wednesday 18th April?

28 ads posted, more database work, new regular UK advertiser likely to start shortly.

What's New for Tuesday 17th April?

Good progress with a new news section that's now nearly there; 56 ads posted covering all four of our usual continents; and very good page view figures at present of c.13,000 a day - accompanied by lots of registrations.

What's New for Friday 13th April?

A slow day - 18 ads only - to follow yesterday's busy one with 64. Good audience though - 2,100 visitors yesterday and nearly 15,000 pages today.

What's New for Easter?

51 ads, busy news day, MRWho content coming together OK if not spectacularly fast. Long weekend coming up!

What's New for Thursday 5th April?

51 ads posted, some database work and some planning for another new feature coming soon, this one highly ambitious...

What's New for Wednesday 4th April?

Just 26 jobs posted. Lots of work on MRWho which has gone from nought to nicely underway in a day - but need a couple more good days if it's going to happen in April as it should.

What's New for Tuesday 3rd April?

Lots of preparation work for some marketing. Lots of news stories around today, had to perm 6 from ten or twelve quite reasonable items. 41 ads posted.

What's New for the weekend?

37 jobs posted - again, good heavens. Lots of discussion of how to optimise the printable pages. Lots of good news re advertising, ie ads placed and interest shown, and the end of a good week and good month (more or less) for site audience.

What's New for Friday 30th March?

Two of our three main 'site metrics' passed record levels for a month today - we've had more than 20,000 unique visitors in March to date and more than 45,000 visits - both records. However, the page views won't beat January's 319,000 even if tomorrow's a huge one. Possibly due to the smaller number of jobs being posted (down about 25% from January's seasonal peak of 1,200) which means individual jobseekers view fewer pages (obviously! Next Week, how to suck eggs).

Good news about the two records though - we'll need to do a lot of promotion to beat them again in April as it's normally a fraction quieter (and it's shorter of course...) but we'll do our utmost.

What's New for Thursday 29th March?

A wonderful day, not least for site audience - 2,300 visitors viewing 17,000 pages - in the all-time top 3 I think. Also for scripting progress - 'email this to a friend' and 'printable version' links added to all news stories and the former to all new jobs too. As for the number of new job ads... 37 again!

What's New for Wednesday 28th March?

The second and third parts of Phyllis' splendid Conference review published today, plus 48 jobs posted from four continents - loads from Asia. Direct ads from two household names, British Gas and Asda.

What's New for Friday 23rd March?

61 ads posted, four more orders for banners, and two more ready to go up tomorrow. And a good day at the MRS Conference, with rather more time spent eating and playing table football than in the conference hall.

Talking of which:
5-2... 5-2... 5-2... 5-2...

What's New for Thursday 22nd March?

What a ****** awful day. Site down for most of it and nothing at ****** all we can do about it except shout at the *********** techies who somehow can't get the thing working again in less than TWELVE HOURS. Shocker. Corpex and a company who supply them called Vital are apparently the culprits - avoid like the plague!!

What's New for Weds 21st March?

53 ads posted with lots in the US and Asia, some good work on the next emailshot, new top bar to go with the new MRWho, which has had some very positive feedback; two banners ordered and one more regular UK advertiser likely to sign up shortly.

*Horrible* technical problems this evening resulting in weekly news not going and jobs emails taking *ages* - late night and unfortunately an early morning to follow. Results from a fault at our ISP's 'upstream ISP' apparently which means it ought to be affecting lots of sites - not much consolation...

What's New for the weekend?

45 ads. MRWho gone. Lots of new news subscriptions. Plans for launch of new section in next couple of days...

54 ads posted. Lots of new and replacement banners on the site and the news emails. Some interesting developments on the US side of which hopefully you'll see the fruits soon!

What's New for the weekend?

49 ads posted, good start to March. Some tweaks to job posting script this evening, long overdue, just tidying up little bits n pieces. A mass news sign-up from what looks like *all* the staff of an agency - could do with more of those!

What's New for Friday 2nd March?

43 ads posted, more work on MRWho.

What's New for Thursday 1st March?

37 jobs to finish the month, and the total pages viewed just crept over that for January in the last hour and a half, despite the three missing days, which means Feb was a great month. The total of around 19,400 unique visitors was a comfortable record.

What's New for Wednesday 28th February?

Despite being a short month it looks like breaking a few records, and smashing that for unique visitors which should pass 19,000. 67 ads were posted today. MRWho is taking shape fast but probably not fast enough to go tomorrow.

What's New for Tuesday 27th February?

Just 28 jobs and all in the UK - like going back in time, but quite welcome as for one reason and another I only had an hour's sleep last night so can just about cope with this lighter workload!

Race is no however to get MRWho out by Wednesday - feeling it might be a losing battle but we'll try.

What's New for Thursday 15th February?

Consistently around 40 ads a day at present, but audiences are great - February is on course to equal January despite have 10% fewer days, and today we'll pass the 15,000 page views mark and possibly the 2,000 visitors mark - the latter has been achieved a few times lately.

New top bar on the daily html news on Tuesday, promoting our global jobs.

What's New for Thursday 1st Feb?

Some great final January totals following 53 ads posted today - here they are with previous records for any month in brackets:

Ads posted - 1,205 (898)
Page views - 319,456 (316,567)
Site visits - 43,650 (41,322)
Unique visitors - 17,176 (16,881)

But last year, things tailed off a bit after January / hovered about the January level for much of the year and this year they won't...

Another 15 newsreaders signed up despite no mailshots, and around 15 added for jobs too :)

What's New for Tuesday 30th January?

Record monthly totals for unique visitors and total visits both possible Tuesday. On Monday we had our 1,000th job advertiser (ever), 'though this includes many from outside the UK who have had free ads - otherwise it'd be about 500 max.

What's New for the weekend?

56 jobs posted, end of a good week. New look temporary top bar for news email taking shape.

What's New for Friday 26th Jan?

Looks like we will break every one of our records this month. Tomorrow we'll pass 1,000 ads in a month for the first time (current total 995 and I have at least 6 to post already...) - having passed 900 for the first time yesterday!; on 31st we should overtake the record number of page views (oddly enough, August last year was a bumper month for these with 316,000); around 30th or 29th we should beat the unique visitor record for a month of around 16,500, and the total visits of around 41,000; and we have 72 new news subscribers already this week, probably a record, ish. Not bad - but it's January, and it should be even better really - will try harder...

What's New for Tuesday 23rd January?

What's New for the weekend?

39 ads posted, another new banner up, good progress on agency contacts for directory, and updated consumer confidence files going up.

What's New for Friday 19th January?

Just 26 ads - a real slowie - perhaps down to today's terrible weather which prevented a lot of people in the UK from getting in to work - including me!

Mostly behind the scenes work today on databases, graphics etc..

What's New for Thursday 18th January?

Two consecutive days with over 2,000 visitors to MrWeb, and today saw more than 16,000 pages viewed.

Job posting slackened off a bit with 'only' 43 new ads - quite a relief! - but the new top bar MRWho graphic is up and the issue details are online, and we have a new banner, so we've been quite busy enough thanks.

What's New for Wednesday 17th January?

72 ads today, 60 yesterday, 303 in the last week - where will it end? Well, it may result fairly soon in the taking on of a full-time admin person - just writing an ad for one now.

MRWho went out yesterday, for the first time in 9 months, and we already have a few nice comments back.

What's New for the weekend?

Another 82 ads - groan, need to get some help with these - but it's great for the site of course. At this rate we will smash the 1,000-in-a-month barrier.

MRWho's ready and will go on Monday, just because it's late and anyway, who wants to leave it in people's Inboxes on Monday morning in amongst the weekend's spam?

More direct advertisers today and more likely for Monday, plus two new banners taking shape.

What's New for Friday 12th Jan?

Another 63 ads, not a lot else today - all admin and behind-the-scenes stuff...

What's New for Wednesday 10th Jan?

60 jobs to add to yesterday's 45; MRWho all but finished at *last*; another new recruitment advertiser, this time in Australia; and a third successive day with more than one direct UK advertiser make this a very good year so far. Audience picked up too, on Tuesday, to around 14,000 pages - it needs to go a lot higher in January which is traditionally the month it increases most from previous levels.

What's New for the weekend?

100 new jobs - the first time we've made it to three figures. Good job one Englishman can still make a century, even if he is a cartoon.

They include the first ads from our second new regular advertiser of the week, Harnham Search & Selection.

Fifteen new jobseekers signed up just in time to receive them.

...and NT is off home at 2.09am.

What's New for Friday 5th January?

50 ads including a first one from one of our two new advertisers. An edition of the almost-mythical MRWho is perilously close to appearing.

What's New for Thursday 4th Jan?

51 new job ads posted, with more appearing from the US now after a day off Tuesday. Two new regular UK advertisers signed up this afternoon - Lipton Fleming and Harnham Search & Selection - we expect the first ads from them very soon and we now have 20 UK recruiters on regular deals, for the first time. A great start to 2007!

What's New for the weekend?

What's New for Tuesday 28th Nov?

Just 22 ads posted. Slow finish to month has stopped it being our closest ever to 1,000 jobs which it would otherwise have been. Good times in other ways though - including high level of interest in banner ads and plenty of direct job ads. Ian back from the Far East today, just about in one piece - so some of the graphics on the site and emails which have become rather stale should change in next couple of days - have been lazy in his absence...

What's New for Thursday 23rd Nov?

A tiny 17 jobs of which just *five* were in the UK - probably the smallest number for 2 or 3 years at least. Everyone's off at the Insight Show, or some of them are anyway - it wasn't *that* busy. First news stories from new editorial star Mel.

What's New for Wednesday 22nd November?

A quiet day on the jobs front! Just eighteen new ads posted including two in the US, three in Asia and three in Aus.

What's New for Weds 25th October?

72 ads posted!! Including lots from a new Australian recruiter advertiser. More work on MRWho which doesn't, however, look like it will go out before my jaunt to Africa - first full week of Nov more likely.

What's New for Tuesday 24th October?

41 ads posted, two more companies renewing agency subscriptions, lots of new news subscribers. Some good work on MRWho but we'll be lucky to get it finished in time for my departure for Kili on Thursday...

What's New for Weds 4th October?

41 ads; new banners on a few pages; new look EarPiece page likely to be launched after a brief delay.

What's New for the weekend?

67 ads posted and a vast number (300?) edited with the ageism law due to come into effect on Monday. A great deal of uncertainty about whether it'll still be OK to put years' experience required in job ads but as far as I can see the Act itself says nothing to indicate you can't - hasn't stopped people from rewriting every ad they have. If it really means this it's a thoroughgoing pain in the neck - a real lose-lose decision for candidates of all ages, recruiters and us with the loss of one of the meaty bits of information that helped people zero in on the relevant jobs, in amongst all the woffle about needing to be team players and think out of the box! Surely no-one would be so daft as to pass such a law..? [don't answer that]

New look EarPiece will go live next week, and a new look agency listing may do so as well.

What's New for Thursday 28th Sept?

43 ads posted, on three continents - no Asian jobs today. A proper page for the 'EarPiece' podcasts is all but finished and a new one was published today.

23 ads only. Off to ESOMAR next week, with plans to do another archive of features on the Congress similar to last year's - but not to leave it up so long! [2005's was still linked from the news section as late as this week - oops - bad housekeeping really...].

Very good audience figures this week, with weekdays averaging about 1650 visits viewing 11,500 pages.

What's New for Friday 15th Sept?

67 ads posted - a very busy week indeed - lots of Asian and Australian jobs in there. Some good bookings for new and old sponsorship banners this week, and some tidying up of news features / design of new pages.

What's New for Thursday 7th Sept?

A tiddly total of *eighteen* jobs posted - so a nice light evening's work checking codes. About 35 new subscribers for the news in the last two days, with mailshot continuing slowly and a new method of contacting people as we go. A new podcast gone up, and my Kilimanjaro page almost ready.

What's New for Tuesday 5th September?

New feature for jobs emails estimates the salaries of jobs where it's not specified and sends relevant links to candidates who selected on salary - should mean a lot more links for these people as we've never managed to stamp out the practice of not specifying even in the UK, despite our efforts, and in the US it is rife.

Signup from the latest emailshot climbed from 10 to 15% today - much better if still below the old levels. I don't imagine the wording is less attractive (it's the same) or that the competition is having any impact, so it must be down to spam filters stopping more before they get there. However it's early days yet - we may yet get up above 20%. More emais going tonight.

What's New for the weekend?

45 jobs posted, and a lot of admin so not much other sign of activity on the site!

What's New for Friday 1st September?

August a record month for jobs posted (932) and pages viewed (316,000). There were 32 ads posted on Thursday / small hours of Friday. Another Earpiece went up today - managing one a week thanks to Surinder's sterling efforts. What's New for Thursday 31st August?

34 ads were posted; a banner for the BIG Guide online is more or less ready; more progress on the agencies directory for which one more person renewed.

What's New for Weds 30th August?

28 or 29 new ads, page views for August should just about beat January's for a new record and the number of jobs posted should be the highest ever as well although it's now likely to run out just short of the 1,000 mark barring a run the last two days. Lots of work on new look agencies directory today, and on some other features.

What's New for the loooong weekend?

55 jobs - 182 in three days now - and 2998 on the site!!! Never had 3,000 before but likely to pass it on Tuesday. Some new schema for ads in the news emails developed last night, should bring us in some nice new revenue (in part to support the journo / circulation manager for whom we're advertising) and shouldn't annoy readers *too* much :) although there may be a lot of movement on the page depending on the ads submitted. Ah well, gotta be a bit more commercial sometimes.

Podcast interview with Greg Novak of Harris Interactive has gone up. The last one, with BASES, has had around 200 listens - not bad!

What's New for Thursday 24th August?

A good variety of interesting news, I thought - and a whopping 68 jobs posted. Good podcast interview scheduled for tomorrow.

What's New for Weds 23rd August?

46 ads posted, some spring cleaning of graphics by the returned Ian, more enquiries re banners and two direct advertisers.

What's New for Tuesday 22nd August?

What's New for Friday 18th August?

45 jobs posted, new podcast gone out with the news.

What's New for Thursday 17th August?

New content for the EarPiece should be ready tomorrow.

What's New for Tuesday 15th August?

43 new ads, not a lot else!

What's New for the weekend?

25 jobs. Major work on the diary section which is now housed with the rest of the site for the first time in 3 years, and whose banners should be a lot more up to date from now on, and easier to manage.

What's New for Friday 11th August?

Back to a high number of jobs after a quietish week - 52 posted on Thursday including several in Sharjah, the first Asian vacs for a while.

What's New for Tuesday 8th August?

Just 15 jobs! Good thing too as on other fronts we were very busy and rather stressed. 54 jobs, and a second, longer EarPiece recorded and sent out with the news.

What's New for Tuesday 1st August?

43 ads and for the first time in a while, US jobs make up the majority, comfortably - 25 of them. Many of these from TNS and two other good batches from a recruiter and another agency.

Online BIG Guide is all there bar the logos and some edits and should be live shortly, and the paper one is supposed to be delivered tomorrow - Eu-blooming-reka. If it happens, that is.

Order for a news sponsorship this evening and a new slot has been created on the news email to contain the resulting banner - part of our general drive to create more ad space and cater for some of the half dozen people unable to spend the money they want with us at present! Nice problem...
